Ridgeview Guest House: Two Bedrooms, Two Bathrooms, Sleeps Four

Texas Wine Country Retreat

Located halfway between Johnson City and Fredericksburg, the Ridgeview Guest House provides easy access to Texas wine trail wineries and many other attractions. This lodging accommodates four adults in two bedrooms (with a queen bed in each) and two bathrooms. Secluded guest porch offers private outdoor space with an expansive hillside view that encompasses LBJ Ranch and well beyond.

A terrific base camp for escaping: ideal for bird watching, reading, knitting, crafting and other relaxed activities. Many guests also come for the cycling. Host Greg is an avid road cyclist and loves sharing his knowledge of the region's roads with other bicyclists.

The Space

Best for those seeking quiet lodging from which to explore the Texas wine trail region. We cater to daytime explorers looking for calm evenings in. We also welcome those looking to sit still in the countryside. Visitors here may avoid the Fredericksburg crowds and traffic while enjoying the country air. This lodging is not a good choice for those seeking on-the-town nightlife, nor for those wanting to make their own noise.

Guest Access

This two-bedroom guest house is completely separate from hosts' main house, though it sits nearby. The two homes share a courtyard/driveway. The guest house back porch offers a heavily shaded view to the valley and is very substantially discrete from the areas shared with the main house. Find lounge chair seating for relaxed wildlife watching, and a small table for al fresco picnicking. During nice weather, this back porch functions as a third (outdoor) room. When the weather is less temperate, guests need only open their window shades to enjoy their own ostensible climate-controlled wildlife blind.

Other Things to Note

Wine region restaurants and grocery stores may be growing in number, but few are open 24/7. The guest house features a small refrigerator and microwave. While it is by no means a cook's kitchen, these amenities are a big step up from tent camping. We provide coffee and tea, microwave oatmeal and popcorn, as well as dishes and linens.

The Neighborhood

Overview

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood with very large lots. Wine trail wineries are a short drive away. Find a small grocery in nearby Stonewall (five miles away, closed Sundays). Wine region restaurants are located nearby too, but few are open seven days so we recommend that guests do some prior planning and research for evening meals. For restaurants/groceries open daily, drive twenty minutes to Fredericksburg (to the west) and Johnson City (to the east). Also, Blanco, Texas is only a slightly further drive. Swim in the LBJ Park pool during the summer, just ten minutes away by car.

Getting Around

Personal automotive transport is by far the most reasonable way to arrive here and to get around. You will not find Uber or public transport here in the hills. Personal wine shuttles may be arranged for daytime winery visits.

Road cyclists should know that they may access many quiet roads from here by using ranch roads only, without needing to ride on major highways. Mountain bikers will not find many trails here, but we can recommend a great county road to the back of LBJ Ranch that is unpaved in parts. Bike Routes
